Theobroma Systems' R&D initiative receives reward (PDF)
The R&D "Smart-Grid for Consumers" is a joint R&D initiative of Theobroma Systems Design und Consulting GmbH and the Information and Software Engineering Group (Vienna University of Technology).
"Smart-Grid for Consumers" will provide both methodology and formalisms for consumer-oriented applications to extend the smart-grid from a utility-driven infrastructure to consumer homes, enabling consumer interaction with individual appliances within emerging Smart Grid infrastructures. The needs and desires of the individual will a significant impact on this technology development initiative, which attempts to unlock a tangible benefit for said individuals.
In contrast, Smart Grids so far have been commonly perceived as a utility-driven infrastructure modernization project with lack of possibilities to empower consumers. Consequently, security and privacy issues are addressed within the project's R&D scope, as the Smart Grid expands to encompass appliances. The core compentency and technology leadership of Theobroma Systems in designing and implementing trusted Embedded Systems enables a future-proof and responsible use of information technology in the proposed application area.
"Many people talk about Smart Grids and their implications. But how many people you know already take a direct and tangible advantage of such grid technology as to their daily lives? As a technology provider it is our responsibility to enable customers to benefit from recent developments, to lower technological entrance barriers, to enable interaction with and to provide trusted access points to future technology," Mag. Jennifer Hetzl (COO) adds.
The "Smart-Grid for Consumers" further emphasises and significantly contributes to Theobroma' sustainable development roadmap and represents the "next step" towards entering this strategic future market.

Die Forschungs- und Entwicklungsinitiative "Smart-Grid for Consumers" von Theobroma Systems Design und Consulting GmbH wird im Rahmen des IKT Call 2010 des ZIT der Stadt Wien gefördert und gleichzeitig als bestes Projekt gewürdigt.
Im Rahmen von "Smart-Grid for Consumers" werden anwendungsnahe Methodologien und Formalismen für verbraucherorientierte Anwendungen auf Basis gegenwärtig entstehenden Smart Grid-Infrastrukturen etabliert. Indem die Bedürfnisse des Endanwenders in den Mittelpunkt der Betrachtungen gestellt werden, erschließt sich nunmehr auch für den Verbraucher ein unmittelbarer Nutzen aus dem Smart Grid, das bislang vor allem als eine Zukunftstechnologie für Versorgungsunternehmen gesehen wurde. Gleichzeitig adressiert das Projekt notwendigerweise Sicherheitsbedenken und vor allem den Schutz der Privatsphäre: die Kompetenz von Theobroma Systems im Design und der Umsetzung vertrauenswürdiger IT-Systeme steht auch in diesem Projekt für einen zukunftssicheren und verantwortungsvollen Technologieeinsatz mit Mehrwert für Endnutzer.
Dazu merkt Mag. Jennifer Hetzl, die Geschäftsführerin der Theobroma Systems GmbH, an: "Alle reden vom Smart-Grid. Wie viele Leute kennen Sie aber, die einen direkten und alltäglichen Nutzen davon haben? Als Technologieunternehmen sehen wir es als Teil unserer Aufgabe an, Zukunftstechnologie näher an den Endverbraucher heranzubringen und für diesen damit ein Stückchen zugänglicher zu machen."
Mit dem Projekt "Smart-Grid for Consumers" wird die Entwicklungsroadmap der Theobroma Systems Design und Consulting GmbH nachhaltig vertieft und für einen wichtigen Zukunftsmarkt weiter vorbereitet.
